I’ve been subscribed to Bellabox for exactly a year as of this July, so I thought it’d be an excellent time to introduce Bellabox unboxing to And Ivory as a way to share with you guys what finds and treats I receive in each of my boxes. For those of you who don’t know, Bellabox is a monthly beauty subscription available here in Australia that picks five sample, deluxe sample or full size products to deliver to your door once a month. Bellabox tries it’s best to cater each box to the user based on the beauty profile created, the products in the boxes are also almost always from cruelty free and vegan brands is which also fantastic!

This month’s box has a theme of ‘Around the World’ – each month will come with a card in the box that gives a theme to the contents of the box, in my opinion the theme isn’t always well reflected by the products but I think they’ve done a good job this month. Inside the usual baby blue box are the five samples, a bonus foil sample, the theme card that outlines your box, and an ingredients card. The brands included in my box this month are Zuii (an Melbourne-based brand), BLAQ (an Australian-based brand) and The Face Shop (A Korean-based brand). I think the theme of ‘Around the World’ was achieved by Bellabox including brands from local sources as well as international sources, but also through including a product that has been a viral trend worldwide. Now, let’s get into the products I received!

Product: Blaq Face Mask, 15ml | 60g RRP $29.00 | Available from brand site or Priceline

Firstly, when I read the name of this mask on the product card I found it a little questionable… I think the brand probably could have come up with a slightly more politically correct name for this product, but hey – you win some you lose some. To summarise, this is an activated charcoal peel mask. You know those super over-the-top peeling videos you see going viral on facebook and instagram where some poor girl is trying her hardest to make it seem like peeling a black mask off her face is the most painful thing she’s experienced? Yep, this is one of those. I’ve tried a few of these charcoal peel masks and I don’t find it anywhere near as painful as the girls in the videos, but I do like them – so this will be good to try out!

Product: Zuii Certified Organic Vegan Flora Mascara 7g | 7g RRP $27.95 | Available from brand site

I’m never mad at receiving a mascara in my Bellabox’s as they’re almost always full sized like this one and I’ve never personally gotten a repeat offender mascara. I hadn’t heard of Zuii Organic prior to receiving this mascara, but from first glance they seem pretty badass. The mascara alone is locally made, certified organic, cruelty free and vegan – and from what I can see the entire brand is like this, pretty cool! As far as mascaras go I’m fairly hard to please, my go-to is the Too Faced ‘Better than Sex’ mascara as I’m a sucker for BIG lashes that don’t clump, and that Too Faced one has never failed me. I’ll definitely try this one out, who knows – it might be a new favourite!

Product: The Face Shop Chia Seed Hydrating Toner 32ml | 145ml RRP $43.00 | Available from brand site international

Product: The Face Shop Chia Seed Hydrating Emulsion 32ml | 130ml RRP $43.00 | Available from brand site international

Product: The Face Shop Chia Seed No Shine Intense Hydrating Cream 10ml | 50ml RRP $64.00 | Available from brand site international

At first when I opened my box I was a little confused as these three products were packaged in this smaller box as a kit, so on first glance I thought my box only had three products, I was wrong! On the back of my product card there is a statement that reads “you will receive three perfectly complimenting skincare products from the face shop, conveniently packaged in a discovery kit trio”. When I read this I was confused once again as I read that two of the products in the kit were labelled as hydrating products for dry skin. My beauty profile says that my skin type is combination and under my beauty concerns nowhere have I specified that I’m looking for hydrating products – so i found this a little strange. However, I do like the sound of these three products. I absolutely love Korean skincare and I do have days where my skin is feeling a little drier than I’d like so I might try these for those days!

So I did the math and the total worth of the products that were in my box came to $67.10, with the value of the full size equivalents for all products coming to $206.95 based on the supplied RRP. I think this box is pretty good value considering that I pay $17.00 a month for my subscription. Not only was this box a bit of a deal in terms of worth, but I now have three completely new-to-me brands to try out, and the products are also ones that I’m interested in using. I much prefer getting makeup and skincare products over things such as fake tan (as I don’t tan), nail products (as I only do SNS) and the other usuals that often are in my boxes such as sunscreen samples and haircare samples. These are samples that I’ll actually see myself using! I’m thinking of posting an unboxing each month, and had the idea of possibly checking back in on the previous box with my thoughts after I try everything out. Let me know if that’s something you’d enjoy reading!

Much love, Ebony xo
