It seems like yesterday that I received my August Bellabox (as it came fairly late in the month) and before I knew it this little guy showed up on my doorstep this morning! I’m not sure what is up with Bellabox’s timing with each month’s box lately, it seems really all over the place! As I wasn’t expecting to receive the box so early, it was a nice surprise and I couldn’t wait to dive in and see what samples I received this month. The theme on the card this month was titled ‘Front Row Fab’, Bellabox described this theme’s purpose was to include tools and products that would have you ‘close up ready’. I already knew two of the products that I was going to be receiving (the sponge and the brow pencil) as it was released that everyone would be getting both however I had no idea what else would be in store, let’s get into the products!

Product: John Frieda Frizz Ease Forever Smooth Leave in Cream Primer, 20ml | 90ml RRP $16.99 | Available from Priceline or Chemist Warehouse
Upon first glance of the box I was slightly dissapointed to see a John Frieda product, as we seem to receive them A LOT in the boxes, and usually the products are brunette / blonde shampoo or something along those lines. However on closer inspection this product actually seems quite unique and unlike other products I have received in the box before. I actually use a John Frieda Frizz Ease Oil on my wet hair after each wash, and I live by it. So I’m keen to try this one out and see if it has any other benefits for my hair!

Product: ModelCo Instant Brow Retractable Pencil, 15g | 15g RRP $16.00 | Available from brand site
This was one of the products I knew that I’d be receiving, and I was intrigued to give it a go as I have a fairly set-in-stone way of doing my brows currently. When I first opened the pencil I immediately thought of the Benefit Goof Proof brow pencil, and I think the company’s intention was to create a dupe. After swatching this product a little on my hand I’m really into the colour – the brown isn’t too ashy, nor is it too warm – which is perfect for my brows. A big draw back that I had after playing around with it was the product kept snapping off from the pen, despite it really not being winded up that far.

Product: Derma E Purifying 2 in 1 Charcoal Mask, 14g | 48g RRP $34.95 | Available from Priceline
Ah…. Remember in last month’s unboxing how I said it was a bit of a bummer to get a mask that was essentially the same as the month prior? Well, it’s happened again people! That’s right, I received my third clay/mud/charcoal type mask in a row in this box! Honestly, I never thought I’d see the day where I get sick of receiving face masks in my box. I have nothing wrong with receiving masks generally, as I love them. However, receiving a mask that does the same thing, and targets the same thing (but a different brand) each month is getting old. While I’d love to say that I’m looking forward to trying this out, I still am yet to even get halfway through my other two samples…. fingers crossed this is the last for a while.

Product: Stylondon Siligel Blender | RRP $14.00 | Available from ASOS
This is actually the first time I’ve ever held one of these totally weird silicon blenders that I’ve seen everywhere. Not going to lie, it feels super cool to touch – it’s got an almost stress-relief ball effect to it. I appreciate the intention of putting this product in the box, I know a lot of subscribers of Bellabox probably, like me, have seen these things around but either never got around to purchasing one, they couldn’t be bothered, or they didn’t think it would be for them. I’m a little bit of a mix of all three of these things, but I’ve always been curious ever since they took the internet by storm about 6 months ago…. But that’s the thing, this was a huge trend…. six months ago. I think Bellabox would have been on the mark if they decided to include this product a few months back, part of me thinks that including it now is just a little late to the party and bordering on irrelevant as I haven’t seen anyone use one of these in a while. But hey, still curious (and I appreciate the tiny glitters in this one)

Product: Avene Extremely Gentle Cleanser Lotion, 25ml | 200ml RRP $31.95 | Available from Priceline or Chemist Warehouse
Avene is another one of those brands that tends to pop up quite a lot in the bellaboxes. Usually, the same products from the brand tend to be recycled – things such as the tolerance extreme moisturizer that I ALWAYS seem to have samples of. I do know that this isn’t really a Bellabox decision as I’ve received Avene samples from other resources such as other subscription boxes and even Priceline freebies. I think the brand itself just tends to sample the same products. So, when I saw THIS little guy in the box I was super excited as I haven’t seen a sample of this product around the freebie world, so I’m really keen on trying this out!

Overall, I think September’s box was okay. It didn’t blow me away, but there are a couple of products that I’m genuinely excited to try out – and the earliness of package arrival is a plus also. I do think that the products selected were appropriate for the given theme of the month, as all have their own ‘detailing’ purposes for different areas of the face and hair. One thing I completely forgot to do last month was tally up the value of the box, both as per the sample sizes and their full size equivalent – so let’s get into that! The total worth of the full size equivalents of each product in the box comes to $113.89, which is on the lower end as far as boxes I’ve received previously. The worth of the samples received as per their given size came to $47.97AUD which isn’t too bad considering the subscription costs $17.00 per month. I’m excited to see what comes in the boxes during the warmer months to come, and bellabox…. please, no more charcoal masks!
Much Love, Ebony xo
