After testing out the original crystal range from Colourpop I thought I’d be turned off any other products in the same range – and then I saw this Amber set on Instagram and I was intrigued. I first saw the balm when a friend tagged me in a post and I thought it looked stunning. Unlike the other crystal balms, this one looked less like an oily shimmer top coat and more like a tinted balm that would be moisturizing but also flattering. When I read that these products were all infused with actual amber I knew I had to test them out. I bought the range as a bundle for $20.00USD from the Colourpop website, but I’m fairly sure you can buy the products individually too.
First things first, this setting spray smells DIVINE. The scent is super fresh and bright and it makes me feel like it would be the perfect touch up spray during the Summer time. This setting spray contains antioxidant ingredients like green and white tea, mango, and Vitamin C and is said to be aimed towards those with normal to oily skin. I definitely think that those ingredients are what give this product it’s amazing scent. The mist on this is better than the original crystal mists, in my opinion, but still has a freakishly long spritz distance. I found that I love used this mist more for applying shadows wet to give them some extra pigment, overall I’m quite impressed.
The balm was definitely the product I was most excited for after seeing swatches of it online. On first impressions, the tube itself seemed to be well made in comparison to the original crystal range which made me very happy (for those of you who didn’t read my last review – most of the balms actually snapped out of their tubes after one use).
This balm is also packed full of great ingredients like Vitamin E, mango and shea butter that gives it a lovely smell and is great for keeping your lips soft. In the above image the swatch on the left is this balm with a few swipes and the right is the colour payoff after one swipe. I’m very pleased with this product, it really is a lovely balm!
The liquid highlighter is definitely the product I was most nervous for as I with many others found the last crystal highlighters difficult to use and not very compatible with other liquid products like foundation and concealer. On first impressions this formula seems a little less oily than my amethyst liquid highlight, and the colour is much more wearable – I can see many more people going for this type of highlight shade. After testing this formula a few times I do still think it is tricky to work with but I did eventually make it work.
I’m so pleased with this range after using and testing it out for a short while. I love that Colourpop has taken the more ‘wearable’ route with the crystal range unlike the previous galaxy themed releases. I’d be interested to see if the company comes out with any other crystal infused products and what they’d be like in comparison to this range.
Much Love, Ebony
