For the last year or so I’ve been obsessed with all things terrazzo. If you don’t know, terrazzo is a composite material made of chips of marble, granite, glass and quartz that is then mixed and poured with a binder- resulting in a stunning effect that looks wonderful in a whole bunch of applications. In my opinion, terrazzo is not only really versatile, but also just doesn’t seem to date. I’ve seen terrazzo bench tops in kitchens that were installed during the 1970’s and still look really on-trend and chic. For this edition of the Pinterest series, I want to show you some of my favourite applications of terrazzo that I have come across on Pinterest that I just love.

Probably the most common domestic application of the material, terrazzo looks just brilliant in kitchens for a bunch of things like benches, splashbacks, flooring and bases. With the ever-expanding varieties and colours of terrazzo, there is a look for any style of kitchen. If you’re looking for a more subdued look, there are combinations of grey and brown neutrals that look lovely with timber cabinets. Alternatively if you’re like me and are a sucker for bold colours, you can find some amazing products that are made up of gorgeous pinks, blues, reds and oranges.

This application of terrazzo is one that I’ve only recently started coming across, and is probably a result of the material being quite on-trend in the last year – products and furniture. I’ve seen a couple of lovely pieces that will have terrazzo accents, and sometimes even pieces made entirely of the wonderful material. I think furniture and decor is a great and easy way to bring terrazzo into your home if you don’t want to go for something that is more permanent like flooring or walls, so if you’re afraid of interior commitment this might be the way to go!

Probably one of my all time favourite uses of terrazzo is in the bathroom. Terrazzo tiles are fairly easily accessible and don’t tend to be too pricey as they’re not in slab form like with bench tops. What I love about using terrazzo in the bathroom is the impact it can have on a usually ordinary and plain space. If you were to apply the tiles on the walls, floors and even around wet areas like the shower or bath the space transforms into a statement space that any visitor will remember!

This last category is super cool. Whenever I see terrazzo staircases, whether that be on Pinterest or in person, I’m always instantly amazing and in love. In my opinion steps that are made with terrazzo just look like brilliant pieces of art that you use! Staircases are another one of those spaces that usually can be overlooked, with designers or people renovating their house just specifying a fairly ordinary timber staircase with an iron balustrade (which is sadly the case in my rental), so why not make your stairs something beautiful!
I hope you enjoyed this little gallery of terrazzo applications that I’ve been collecting over time, I really do love all of these projects! Do you have a particular material or pattern that you’re strangely obsessed with? Let me know in the comments! I’d also love to hear what you would like to see in my next Pinterest Series post.
Much Love, Ebony xo
