WINTER LIPSTICK LINEUP

No matter if I’m doing an everyday or going-out makeup look, chances are I’ll be wearing a matte lip of some kind, and during Winter they’ll usually be fairly bold, vampy or singing out nineties vibes. I thought I’d go through my favourite ten lip colours for the Winter time and what it is about each that i love. The items in this lineup vary from affordable to more high end, as well as a mix of different formulas including lipsticks, liquid mattes and liquid metallics – I do love them all though, let’s get into the lineup! (BTW there’s swatches at the end of this post so be sure to read right to the end to see how these look on the skin!)

I don’t often wear lipsticks as I tend to prefer longwear formulas like liquid lips, however when I’m looking for something a little more comfortable and easy for everyday I’ll go for a traditional lipstick. These two beauties are a perfect example of a drugstore and high end product that I love equally. The low-end lippie is a matte lipstick by E.L.F. in the shade ‘Blushing Brown’ ($8.00AUD from Kmart), and is a beautiful warm tone brown nude that goes brilliantly with almost every look. The formula of it is very lightweight and not super matte, but more of a comfort matte. The high end nude lip that I always go back to is the Studded Kiss Matte Lipstick by Kat Von D Beauty in the colour ‘Cathedral’ ($31.00AUD from Sephora). Firstly, the bullet of this lipstick is to die for and super brand fitting – but the colour is even better. This nude is a little darker than the E.L.F. lipstick and gives me more of a grungey vibe. The formula of the Studded Kiss lipsticks is much thicker and require a little more care on application but WOW these are gorgeous when they dry down to a super matte finish.

Now, I know that this next colour is technically two products…. But in my opinion this product needs the lip liner as well as the lipstick for a flawless application as it is a super dark and vampy colour. Colourpop really is a favourite as far as formulas go for me, and the Lippie Stix formula is the most comfortable lipstick I’ve ever come across before. This Lippie Stix colour ‘Creature’ with it’s pairing lip liner are a match made in heaven for those of us who love a true, deep vampy lip colour. Not to mention they’re hella cheap at $5.00USD each, just yes!

Another feature from Colourpop, the Ultra Matte Lips ($6.00USD) are my go to most days of the week if I’m wearing makeup. The colour range of this formula is astounding and the price tag is even better for what you get. It was a super tricky decision picking only three Ultra Mattes from my collection to include in this top ten, but I got there. From left to right my personal favourite colours for Winter in this formula are ‘Dr. M, Embellish, and LAX’ – Dr. M is my most unique liquid lip that I own, it’s a super cool teal shade that looks wonderful on my skin tone. Embellish is the perfect deep brown and LAX is the classic vampy red that never gets old.

When I first discovered the Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks ($30.00AUD from Sephora) I fell in love with everything about them from packaging, application to formula and colour variety… so naturally I had to include a couple in my top ten for winter. The deep blue shade called ‘Echo’ holds the same bond to my heart as Dr. M from colourpop as it’s so unique and bold, and is such a great deep blue colour that surprisingly works with a tonne of looks. The second liquid lip that I LOVE from Kat Von D is the colour ‘Exorcism’, which I know is a cult favourite for lovers of vampy lips. This colour is a divine deep berry shade that is lovely in colder months.

While I’ll usually go for a matte lip, I do have an obsession with metallic lip products, and I actually own a lot of them. The way that I’ll usually style a metallic lip is with a subtle eye look that will tend to be matte paired with a black winged liner. For metallic liquid lips my favourite formula and colour range has got to be the Limecrime Velvetines ($29.00AUD) and this colour ‘Raisin Hell’ is in my opinion, the perfect twist on a winter red. If it wasn’t Summer during Christmas here is Australia you can guarantee I’d be sporting this all through December.

Last, but certainly not least is this super cute Liquid Suede mini from NYX (Full Size $16.00AUD) in the colour ‘Alien’. I obtained this little guy recently in the NYX lip vault (post coming soon!) and I’ve been obsessed with it since. It’s about the closest to black a lipstick could be, without actually being black. It’s a hypnotizing charcoal that look great with a lot of looks. I personally adore the formula of the NYX liquid suedes as while they dry down to a matte finish, they’re not transfer proof so they’re more comfortable for long wear and actually wear down much nicer than your standard liquid lipstick.

As you can see from these swatches, I like a bit of variety when it comes to my lipsticks. So my favourites that I’ve included in this top ten range from nudes to berries to bold shades that have deeper undertones. All of these make perfect pairings to any Winter look that I may put together, and I enjoy them all a lot! Let me know which of these is your personal favourite and whether you have a staple winter lipstick shade!

Much Love, Ebony xo
